Congratulations to the people of Banjosa on the restoration of the name “Banjosa Lake.” The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition regarding the change of the lake’s historical name, stating that the collector has no legal authority to make such a decision. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir emphasized that the court will not waste time on this matter as the lake’s name is and will remain Banjosa. The review petition filed by a group from Chhota Gala regarding the change of the lake’s name was rejected, reaffirming that the name “Banjosa Lake” cannot be altered under any circumstances. The Supreme Court further stated that the notification issued by the collector in 1995 holds no legal validity, and the collector/commissioner had no authority to issue any such order. The court also noted that the petitioner had previously filed a similar request for reconsideration in 2022, which was dismissed on October 13, 2022. As a result, the court found the present petition for the rehearing of a closed case not worthy of further consideration. The petitioner referred to the collector’s script, despite the fact that the collector does not have the legal power to do so, which led to the rejection of this petition for reconsideration. It should be noted that some individuals from Chhota Gala, misinterpreting the Supreme Court’s decision, had raised concerns about the name of Banjosa Lake and filed a petition to correct the alleged error, but the Supreme Court has upheld the historical name of Banjosa Lake.
